James Engelbert has been the Director of Bands for Flat Rock Community Schools since 1991.  He holds a BMEI from Eastern Michigan University and a M.Ed from Concordia University, Ann Arbor.  He is a lifetime member of Kappa Kappa Psi, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternities.

 

Mr. Engelbert has studied conducting and band methods with Dr. Max Plank, Music Theory with Dr. Sylvan Kalib and Dr. Maurice Laney, and composition with Dr. Anthony Iannaccone.

 

Mr. Engelbert has been recognized nationally as one of the “50 Band Directors Make a Difference” by School Band and Orchestra.  He has been a member of the Michigan Band and Orchestra Association since 1983 and has served on the Executive Board as Vice-President of Band and Orchestra, Secretary, and Vice-President of Marching Band. He is also a member of the National Association for Music Education. Mr. Engelbert has been included eight times in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
